I had the unique opportunity to speak to the congregation at Reynoldson Baptist Church today. My day started early and my first session at the church was with a wonderful group of teenagers. We discussed being a missionary and then I spoke to them about my work with Union Mission in Roanoke Rapids, NC. I have the joy of working with the mission and assisting in the ministry there. As I spoke about the work a young man interrupted me and said “Did I hear you on the Radio this week? Your voice sounds like the guy on the radio talking about Union Mission.” I confessed that indeed it was me he heard. He said “I gave the Union Mission $38.00 after I heard about the work.” I was stunned. This nice young man appeared to be about 16 years old. As we continued to talk about serving God I silently thanked God that I was in the presence of these teenagers.
On Friday four pick up trucks arrived from the high school. These trucks were full of canned goods that had been collected by the students, themselves, for the Union Mission.
At this Thanksgiving time I am grateful for young lives that are hearing God’s voice to help the poor and needy. These young men and women are the future leaders of our towns and communities here in eastern NC. On second thought, they are not the future of our towns and communities; they are the present. Thank you young men and women for setting the example for the rest of us.
May God truly bless you as you seek to serve our Lord.
